Your Story Matters
“Your story matters,” I slowly read and then paused.
Why is this so hard for me to believe?
I was in the middle of my child-rearing years when I first read that quote. I was a wife and mother, a homeschool teacher, the chief errand-runner, meal-preparer, and house picker-upper. My life felt busy, but mostly very ordinary. I loved teaching and being with my children, but in the midst of everything, I couldn’t see the truth:
God was writing an amazing story through my very ordinary days.
Even though I couldn’t see it at the time, God was getting me ready. My every-day experiences during those ordinary years were adding new pages every day. My experiences were equipping me for a new purpose He would call me into after my children left home.
Do you sometimes wonder if the ordinary day-to-day parts of your life make even matter?
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
Scripture makes it clear that you are God’s masterpiece. The things you do every ordinary day make a difference and are equipping you in ways you may not see. Your story matters and here’s why.
Your Story Matters to God
God loved you so much He thought of you before the foundation of the world.
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:16
Your life, and all the ordinary moments in it, were written before even one of them came to be. God saw you before time, and thought of you. He ordained your days: days meant for you and for His glory. To Him, you are a special one — His precious creation and the apple of His eye.
Every day and every ordinary moment has eternal value.
Your story matters.
Your Story is Unique
Before the foundations of the world, God had a strategic plan, and it included you. He fashioned you with intentionality for His eternal purposes.
Did you know that one popular assessment, The CliftonStrengths, determines your top five talent themes? The chance that another person has your same top five talents in any order is 1 in 275,000.
And things become even more astonishing when you see your exact order. When listed in order of their intensity your top five strengths are so unique that there’s only a one in over thirty three million chance that another person has those same top five strengths in the same order as you!
You are intricately designed, knit together in a way that is utterly amazing. Your life experiences, your values, your gifts, your strengths, and your unique brain wiring were designed by God to weave together the beautiful tapestry of who you are.
Only you can be you. God has complete confidence in His design — you can, too!
Your Story Touches Others
Your story means something to someone else.
When you share something small and seemingly ordinary from your life with a friend she feels validated, grateful someone understands. She’s in the ordinary days with you. She may need the encouragement that only you can give. When you share your story, she no longer feels as alone.
Your story is God’s design for you, and it’s also woven into someone else’s story, too.
Your story matters.
Your Story is a True Story
Your story is about one life — a life lived every ordinary day.
It’s a story about not giving up, even when you don’t understand. It’s about finding a way when there wasn’t one before. It’s a helping hand and a tender heart. It’s about rising above and being shaped into the woman God created you to be.
There’s value in the life you are living. Every ordinary day is another page written. Every ordnary day is a page filled with meaning to be shared. When you share your story, you share Jesus, too.
Your Story is a Part of God’s Larger Story
God created you with a plan in mind. Your life is a part of that plan. Your story brings something beautiful and vibrant to God’s larger narrative — His bigger picture.
God created a masterpiece when He created you and every day of your life has eternal value.
Each moment of your story from one sunrise to the next is part of the power of God working through you and into the life of others. One ordinary life – your life – touches others in ways you may never see. But God does.
Keep living your story — one precious ordinary day at a time. Because your story matters.

Sometimes we can all slip into the faulty thinking that we really don’t matter, thus that our story doesn’t matter. I love your call to negate that thinking! I’ll be featuring your post this Friday at my blog as our Grace and Truth featured post. We all need these reminders that God sees our stories and gives each of us great purpose.
Lisa, it’s so true how easy it is to slip into the thinking that we don’t matter. I appreciate your visit and look forward to the feature. Thank you so much!
God created my story and I know it means so much because he knows what my strengths are and it’s important to share my story I don’t got a lot of time left and nobody can’t tell my story because it wouldn’t even be possible for anybody speak gods divine purpose because my voice is extraordinary passion and when I tell my story it’s going to spark gods childs
Leslie, I found so much encouragement here today, thank you! I’ve been told my story matters, and had a similar reaction as you did! My story has so many broken pieces I often believe it has no value. Yet as you clearly outlined here, there are at least FIVE reasons why my story does matter!!
It’s the broken pieces that make our stories so valuable, but that’s so often hard to see! I’m so glad you were encouraged. Thank you for visiting today!
Your story is priceless and the pieces is there but you’re story is still being written it’s all about God timing and love
Yes, our stories matter. We need to tell our stories because someone could benefit. This line stood out to me: When you share your story, you share Jesus too. So true! Sharing my story presents many opportunities to share Jesus because he is the reason I am alive today despite my story.
So true, Yvonne!
